The Buddha lived under the sky, sheltered only by trees and surrounded by the elements of nature.
He gained enlightenment under a tree and endured the hardships of the Indian summer heat and the torrential rains of the monsoon season.
He was known as the Muni — the silent sage. In this retreat, we will follow his path of wisdom and compassion and experience periods of noble silence.
Silent without, in unhurried gardening.
Silent within, as the chatter of the mind naturally settles into the stream of phenomena, constantly arising and passing away.
We will dive into the aliveness of the body and be in touch with the elements — the fiery heat of the summer sun, the cooling breeze of the wind, the earth under our naked feet …
Meditation, ritual, and conversation are interwoven with cups of tea, prepared in the traditional Chinese way and imbued with the wisdom of the elements.
The retreat will be led in English.
